Prescription guide
How to get a sermorelin prescription.
Sermorelin requires a prescription. It was once FDA-approved as Geref, but that product was discontinued, so clinicians who prescribe sermorelin today send the prescription to a compounding pharmacy. You can start with a telehealth clinic, a local peptide or hormone clinic, or your own doctor.
01 · Where to get it
Where to get a sermorelin prescription.
A consultation is an evaluation, not a purchase. The clinician decides whether sermorelin is appropriate for you, and may suggest something else.
- 01
Telehealth clinic
A clinician licensed in your state reviews your history by video or questionnaire and, if sermorelin is appropriate, sends the prescription to a pharmacy that ships to you.
- 02
In-person clinic
A local peptide, hormone, or wellness clinic can examine you, draw labs on site, and handle follow-up in person.
- 03
Your own doctor
A primary care doctor or endocrinologist can prescribe a compounded preparation too. Many prefer to evaluate growth hormone questions themselves before considering it.
02 · Before you book
What to ask a clinic first.
- 01Which pharmacy compounds the sermorelin, and is it a licensed 503A pharmacy or a registered 503B outsourcing facility?
- 02Which labs do you order before prescribing and during follow-up?
- 03How often are follow-up visits, and what do consultation, medication, and refills each cost?
Our peptide therapy guide covers cost, insurance, and how to check a clinic's credentials.

Questions
Sermorelin prescription FAQ.
Do you need a prescription for sermorelin?
Yes. Sermorelin is a prescription drug, and compounding pharmacies dispense it only against a prescription from a licensed clinician. Vials sold online as research use only are not labeled for human use and are not a prescription pathway.
Is sermorelin FDA-approved?
Not today. It was approved in the past under the brand name Geref, which is no longer marketed. Current prescriptions are compounded, and compounded drugs are not FDA-approved.
Can I get a sermorelin prescription online?
Often, yes. A telehealth clinician must generally be licensed in the state where you are during the visit, and the pharmacy must be able to ship to you. Expect a medical history review and, at many clinics, lab work.
Does insurance cover sermorelin?
Rarely. Compounded preparations are usually paid out of pocket. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate covering the visit, labs, medication, and follow-up.
